Introduction to Eduard
To create a shaded relief image with Eduard, you first import or download a grid with elevation data, adjust shading settings, and then export a shaded image. Save the document to store shading settings and a link to the grid file.
Drop a grid file with elevation values onto the window or choose File (at the top of the screen) > Import Grid, then select the file with the grid.
If you don’t have a grid file, download one by clicking on Download a grid a the center of the empty window, or choose File (at the top of the screen) > Download Grid.
Adjust the shading type, illumination direction, generalization and other settings in the sidebar on the right of the window. Combine and mask layers to customize your shading.
Choose File (at the top of the screen) > Export Shading.
Specify the image file format.
Click Export to save the image file.
Save an Eduard document
Choose File (at the top of the screen) > Save, then save an Eduard document. Eduard documents contain all layer settings and a link to the grid file.
Note: An Eduard document does not contain any grid data. Instead, it stores a link to the grid file that you imported or downloaded. To archive your work it is therefore important to save and backup both the Eduard document and the grid file.
Layer settings can also be bookmarked. Eduard stores bookmarks on your Mac, and you can apply a bookmark to multiple elevation models. Read more about bookmarks .
